Overview:
MHPCA presents Hospice Social Worker Advanced Seminar. Dive into social work topics including information on social work ethics and green burials. You will hear from an end of life doula and participate in a hospice house panel.

Objectives:

  1. Have an understanding of the End of Life Doula scope of services and benefits and the advances it brings to patient experience and team operations.
  2. Identify ethical concerns at end of life while recognizing proactive approaches of preventing and resolving ethical conflict.
  3. Learn the history and vision behind hospice houses along with how hospices houses are funded and the social work role in hospice houses.
  4. Learn about different burial choices while considering environmental reasons. cost savings, and family participation.

Amy Hertweck-Warner DO MA HEC-C

Dr. Warner graduated from A T Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1998 and practiced as an OB/Gyn. She completed her Masters in Bioethics and Health Policy from Loyola University-Chicago and has served as a Director of Ethics with the Mercy Health System since 2017.

Dianne Emily – LCSW

Dianne Emily is a licensed clinical social worker and is the social worker for Saint Luke’s Health System in Kansas City MO at the Saint Luke’s Hospice House.  Dianne has also worked as a home hospice social worker for Saint Luke’s Hospice.  Prior to moving to the Kansas City area, Dianne was a bereavement coordinator for St Anthony’s Hospital (now Mercy South) in St Louis, MO.  At Saint Luke’s Hospice House, Dianne has a liaison role to facilitate admissions and coordinate care for patients.  As the hospice house social worker, Dianne conducts psychosocial assessments, provides emotional support, and educates and assists with resources as needed to support the end of life wishes of patients and families. 

Melissa Wofford – MSW, LCSW 

Melissa Wofford is a licensed clinical social worker at the de Greeff Hospice House in St. Louis, MO.  Melissa has worked in the health field since graduating with her MSW in 2002.  She began working in hospice in 2007.  Melissa coordinates admissions, conducts psychosocial and pre-bereavement assessments along with providing daily support to patients and families.

William (Bill) Goddard

William Goddard is the president of Pushing Up Daisies, Inc. He has been the certified operator of Green Acres and Sugar Creek Cemetery for the past 13 years.

Webinar Information:
The cost for this seminar is $160.00 for members & $185.00 for  non-members.
There are no refunds, however substitutions are welcome.

A $40 late fee will be assessed after 4/25/2022.

Registrants will receive the Zoom link and call in information the week of the training.
This is an intermediate level course.

Upon completion of this course each attendee will be required to complete an evaluation. Each participant will then receive a general certificate. Each attendee must complete the entire course to receive the certificate. Certificates will be distributed to attendees after returning the sign in sheet and evaluation to MHPCA. SOCIAL WORKERS: MHPCA, #1359, is an approved provider for social work, continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) www.asbw.org, through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. MHPCA maintains responsibility for the program. ASWB Approval Period 2/28/2020 – 2/28/2023. Social workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval for continuing education credits. Social workers participating in this course will receive (5.5) continuing education clock hours.
